any or all sessions.

Lutheran Church Women
If you are a woman and a member of Holy Trinity Church, then you are automatically a member of our Lutheran Church Women (LCW).
Holy Trinity’s women have a long and proud history of coming together to serve God through their church and out to the world beyond. While we have an overarching group that includes all Holy Trinity women, many of those women choose to meet in one of our small groups, called circles. There we study a Bible topic and share food and fellowship, growing close relationships. Here is when each circle meets, September through June. If you are not currently a member, we would so much enjoy your presence.
You can visit around to see which group works best for you.
- Eve meets the second Thursday of each Monday, 7:30 PM
- Hannah meets the second Sunday of each month, 11:30 AM
- Miriam meets the second Monday of each month, 12:30 PM
- Ruth meets the second Wednesday of each month, 7:30 PM
We provide and sponsor many enriching activities and opportunities to give. They include:
- 2 General Meeting Programs each year
- Annual Church Women’s Retreat
- Blanket Sunday ~ Ladies Sewing Group ~ Lenten Soup Supper
- Collections for Cradle of Hope, Sarnelli House, and others
- We launched the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Ministry at Holy Trinity in 2007.

Men's Devotional Group
Holy Trinity is blessed to have a core of men who are true followers of Christ. Groups of these men at Holy Trinity have become bands of brothers to each other — united in purpose, mutually supportive and accomplishing great things. Men like this exemplify Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” We are blessed that Holy Trinity has so many men like this.
One such band of brothers is the Men’s Devotional Group. These men gather on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Youth Room.
These men read the Bible together, pray together, worship together, and challenge each other as Christian men to use their talents for God’s kingdom. It was men like this Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton wanted when he posted this advertisement in 1913: “Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.” It was men like this Jesus called as He promised those who followed HIm only suffering, trial, and pain. It is men like this the Men’s Group at Holy Trinity is seeking.
The Men’s Devotional Group organizes outreach events through the year such as the 5K Run for Water Mission. Volunteering time and talents are a hallmark.
Tom Schied is the leader of this group. Contact 215-820-2178 or tschied63@gmail.com.

Sew, Knit, Crochet
This group welcomes anyone who enjoys sewing, knitting, or crocheting items for those in need. They gather on Saturday mornings a number of times throughout the year to make blankets, scarves, drawstring and T-shirt bags or whatever else might be needed. Sarnelli House in Kensington is one of the recipients of these many projects.
How to Knit a Diane Throw Rectangle
- Rectangles will measure 8 inches by 55 inches
- Each row uses a knit stitch
- Please make sure that the length is measured on a flat surface to ensure its size
- Use size 8 knitting needles
- Use 4 ply yarn
- Cast on 40 stitches
- Adjust the number of stitches so that 40 stitches = 8 inches
Each throw takes four rectangles. The sewing group would be delighted to “finish” your rectangles into an afghan — but it is perfectly fine is you would like to finish the afghan yourself.
Just bring your rectangles (or finished afghan) to the Church Office or to the Narthex. Someone from the Sewing Group will pick them up and “see them safely home.”
How to Make a Prayer Shawl
For the past few months the Ladies’ Sewing Group and other Holy Trinity volunteers have been knitting prayer shawls in order to reach out to those in need of comfort and solace. We would like to offer the shawls to mothers of baptized babies, to shut-ins, to the ill or hospitalized or recovering, or to anyone else for whom reminders of God’s love and the prayers of the knitters are appropriate.
You may use your own pattern, but the finished size should be approximately 25″ x 70″
The following patterns have been developed by Victoria Galo and Janet Bristow (2006 All rights Reserved).
Knitting Instructions
- Materials: Lion Brand “Homespun”, 3 skeins
- Size 11 or 13 knitting needles
Cast on stitches in multiples of three — 54, 57, or 60 (if you are doing the Trinity Stitch) Otherwise, cast on between 54 or 60 depending on how wide you wish your shawl to be.
Trinity Stitch:
First row: k3, p3, to end
Second row: Always begin the next row with the opposite stitch from what you see. For instance, if the first stitch on the needle is a knit, then start with a purl. IT SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE RIBBING. Knit the purls and purl the knits.
Third Row: continue the k3, p3 pattern always knitting the purls and purling the knits from the previous row.
NOTE: If you cast on 57 stitches you will start each row with a k3.
Once desired length is reached, bind off loosely in knit. Add fringe if desired.
Garter stitch:
Knit every row. Finish off as above.
Crochet Instructions
- Materials: Lion Brand “Homespun”, approximately 4 skeins (Crocheting typically uses more yarn than knitting, so you might have to adjust the width and size of hook, or use another 1/2 skein)
- Crochet hook size: M, N, or P
Chain 54 stitches or desired width of shawl.
Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each of the stitches to end. Chain 3 and turn.
Double crochet in top of each single crochet. Repeat this row 2 more times. Chain 1 and turn. Do 1 row of single crochet to end. Chain 3 and turn.
Do 3 rows of double crochet, chaining 3 at the end of each row.
Repeat pattern to end (1 row single, 3 rows double) End with 1 row of single.
Finish off with fringe if desired.
Visit the prayer shawl website for more ideas about variations of stitches, prayers while knitting or crocheting, and other interesting and helpful information www.shawlministry.com When your shawls are completed, please bring them to the narthex. They will be distributed by The Christophers.
