He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He grew up in Spring Valley, New York (elementary school; Conservative Baptist church); Winston-Salem, North Carolina (junior high school; Southern Baptist church); and Walnut Creek, California (high school; Evangelical Free church).

He was further educated in Wheaton, Illinois (B.S. in mathematics, Wheaton College; nondenominational Bible church, where he was baptized in 1984); Pasadena, California (M.S. in neuroscience, California Institute of Technology, and M.A. in theology, Fuller Theological Seminary; Evangelical Free church); New Haven, Connecticut (Ph.D. in theology, Yale University; ELCA Lutheran church); and Cambridge, Massachusetts (post-doctoral work, Harvard University; Episcopal church).

He married his beautiful wife Beth in 1989, and they’ve been gifted with a talented daughter, Ravinia, born in 2000.

Mr. Thomas H. Williams, MM, BM

Director of Music

Thomas Hobson Williams has served as Director of Music and Organist at Holy Trinity since May 2024. Working closely with the Pastor and the Worship and Music Committee, Thomas is responsible for leading weekly rehearsals of the chancel and bell choirs, selecting music for services with thoughtful consideration for the liturgy and Scripture lessons for each week, and, of course, playing the organ and directing the choir each Sunday.

Thomas holds music degrees from Shorter University in Rome, GA and the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, NJ. Before coming to Holy Trinity, he served in a similar capacity at churches in New Jersey and NYC. A member of the American Guild of Organists for many years, he is a former Dean of the Brooklyn chapter of that organization, and performs concerts throughout the region as a freelance organist. In addition to his love for organ and choral music, Thomas has a long list of other musical projects to his credit, ranging from collaborations with singers on recitals of art song literature to musical theatre pit orchestra playing.
